LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES OF STUDENT BODY ORGANIZATION OFFICERS IN ISABELA STATE UNIVERSITY-MAIN CAMPUS
Abstract
This descriptive correlational study primarily aimed to determine the leadership capabilities of the 97 purposively selected Student Body Organization Officers of Isabela State University-Main Campus along Strategic, Operating and Organizational Positioning Skills. It also identified the problems encountered by the student leaders in the performance of their duties. Frequency counts, percentage, mean and Pearson-r correlation were used in treating the gathered data. Results revealed that the extent of strategic skills, operating skills and organizational positioning skills of the student leaders are rated to a “Great Extent”. There are problems encountered by the SBO Officers in regard to the Administration, fellow officers and SBO Adviser in the performance of their duties and responsibilities as Officers such as: (1) Lack of support and funds in the implementation of activities (2) Lack of communication and response to student’s request (3) Lack of time for the monitoring and implementation of activities (4) Some SBO advisers are unapproachable, strict, inconsiderate and not flexible (5) Some student leaders are weak in leadership skills, poor in decision-making, lack of initiative, not participative and poor in time management. The study recommends that the University Officials may allocate funds for the implementation of SBO programs and activities and regular or close supervision by Advisers be conducted to SBO Officers on the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of their programs and activities.
